The World Racing Group made a groundbreaking announcement on Saturday morning with the announcement of a pair of new racing series that will debut in the 2022 season.
The tours, dubbed as the Xtreme Outlaw Series, will feature midgets as well as non-wing sprint cars in action throughout the season.
Each tour will have 10-15 races with, “a combined point fund approaching $100,000 available in year one with plans to only grow bigger.”
“I have always been a huge fan of this type of racing, and I believe World Racing Group can contribute to the future success of these classes,” World Racing Group CEO Brian Carter said. “There’s no denying how spectacular Midget and Non-Wing Sprint Car racing is, and we want to bring it to more people. Working in conjunction with POWRi and USAC to the extent possible and combining World Racing Group’s already established resources will allow us to expand the sport and provide more entertainment for our fans.”
The tour will be streamed live to racing fans through the DirtVision platform, like the other World Racing Group sanctioned events.
The season opener has already been determined, with the non-wing sprint cars racing for $5,000 on Monday, February 14 at the DIRTCar Nationals and $10,000 the day after in Volusia.
In its first year, the series will hold multiple races in conjunction with other World of Outlaws events, including the midgets at the Ironman 55 along with the winged sprint cars in August.
Casey Shuman will serve as series director.
“I’m beyond thrilled to get this adventure going in 2022,” Shuman said in a release. “With the resources we have here at World Racing Group and the people we have lined up, I think we can build something great here. The Midget and Non-Wing community offers some of the most exciting racing in all of the world and we want to increase the awareness and exposure.”
